"Learning to disappear" - Why I make NFTs - Part of the exhibition is still on view at MEDEX - Musée éphémère de l'exil and the two canvases from the NFTs below are hanging at the Sounds Jazz Club in @Ixelles as I write this little note in late 2022.
Invisibility, anonymity, these two terms are regularly used to describe this work. Invisibility as a deprivation of rights, anonymity as a protection of those rights. There's no doubt that this is what my work is about, as well as a reflection on the capture, if not the kidnapping, of our attention, or a certain alteration of form by substance (2008).
But what I'm trying to express - hence the return to the first background of monochrome stains on strips of adhesive paper and the binary system (stain/no stain) it presents - is the disappearance of the representation we have of the human being, an individual inherited from the Renaissance, the Enlightenment and the humanist tradition.
This representation is based on the recognition of individuality, singularity and free choice. Yet the digital thinking that is increasingly taking its place as the ruler of the world and the things that inhabit it has no interest whatsoever in this singularity, which becomes a variable - of little importance - like any other. What underpins our - digital - identity are our interactions - good or bad - not the recognition of our freedom or equality, let alone our fraternity.
If this state of affairs was hardly perceptible almost 15 years ago when I began this work "Learning to disappear", it is gradually becoming obvious, without any political power being able to oppose it.

That said, NFT is the best medium for digital information.
